Frequently Asked Questions

Ilonai is in development. We are preparing a first real-home pilot. There are no facility deployments yet. Answers describe the design we are building toward unless they say otherwise.

Privacy

Is this video surveillance?

No. The machine is meant to watch for a fall so people do not have to watch the person.

  • No live camera feed for family, staff, or Ilonai
  • No audio
  • No facial recognition
  • No sleep, activity, or daily-routine reports
  • If nothing happens, no image leaves the system

What leaves the home or facility?

Normal operation: health/status metadata only (a heartbeat so someone can know the system is still working). Not images, video, audio, or a history of the day.

Possible fall: one confirmation image can go to a designated guardian or caregiver. A short incident clip can stay on the local computer.

If video is not kept, how can you show the seconds before a fall?

Video is not retained during normal operation. A short encrypted rolling buffer (about 10–15 seconds) exists locally and is continuously overwritten. If a possible fall is detected, that short window can be preserved as an incident clip — along with a brief period after the event.

“Not retained” is the accurate phrase, not “never stored even for a moment.”

Can Ilonai staff look at the cameras?

No. Ilonai is not designed to have remote camera access. Diagnostics are intended to be health metadata only — for example that a camera is offline — not what is happening in the room.

Can family “check in” visually whenever they want?

No. That is a design boundary. Family or staff would be brought in only for a possible emergency, typically via a confirmation image — not a live window into daily life.

Will you use customer footage to train models?

Not without separate, explicit permission. Ordinary camera footage from a home or facility is not a training feed.

Is Ilonai GDPR or FADP certified?

No. We do not hold a GDPR certification (GDPR is not a product certificate), a completed Swiss FADP audit, CE marking, or ISO certification.

We are designing around Swiss FADP privacy-by-design principles: purpose limitation, data minimization, restricted access, and short retention. Formal legal validation will be published when it exists.

How it works

Where does the AI run?

On a dedicated local AI computer on the premises — not inside each camera, and not in a video cloud. Approved PoE network cameras send video over a private local network to that box.

Do I need home or facility Wi-Fi?

The intended design does not depend on household or facility Wi-Fi. Cameras and the AI box sit on their own wired network. An independent cellular link is meant to carry alerts and heartbeats only.

What cameras do you use?

Approved standards-based PoE network cameras — not a proprietary camera cloud. We will qualify specific models (reconnect behavior, night mode, image quality). We do not promise that any third-party camera will work.

Does Ilonai prevent falls?

Not as currently designed. Ilonai is fall detection plus rapid verified escalation: turning an unwitnessed fall into a known event. That can reduce time until help arrives. It does not stop the initial fall. We will not claim fall-rate or injury-rate reductions until we have evidence.

How accurate is it?

We do not have real-home or care-facility performance to publish. Internal tests will be labeled as internal tests. We will not headline percentages as clinical results.

What happens if the system itself fails?

A safety system should report its own failures. The design includes camera health, valid frames, AI-node health, missed heartbeats, and notification if mains power is lost for more than a defined period. We do not yet promise a specific UPS runtime.

Does it track sleep, wandering, or daily routines?

No. Those are outside the product boundary. The AI is there to answer a narrow question: is there evidence of a possible fall or a person in danger on the floor?

Stage, pilots, and cost

Can I buy Ilonai today?

No. The product is in development. There is no commercial installation service and no facility rollout.

Do you run pilots?

A first real-home pilot is being prepared. We are not running facility pilots today. If you want to be considered later, get in touch. Any pilot will be labelled as a trial, not a finished certified product.

Where do you operate?

We are based in Switzerland. Nothing is available for installation yet. Switzerland is the intended first market.

What does it cost?

There is no commercial offer today. Earlier site pages listed illustrative CHF figures for a future product; those are not a quote and will change.

Will insurance pay, or reduce premiums?

We do not know, and we are not claiming insurer discounts or confirmation letters.

What certifications do you have?

None yet. No CE marking, ISO 13485, ISO 27001, or completed data-protection audit. We will list a licence or certification only after it is granted.
